What’s also VERY telling is how all these micro-influencers and their followers keep calling for the Ummah to “go easy on Tate”, “he’s new to Islam give him time”, etc, etc. Now just imagine if WOMAN with the personality and behaviors of Tate were to convert to Islam. These same male micro-influencers would be on her case from the first moment to “cover your beauty sister”, “renounce all haram habits and behaviors immediately, sister”, “delete all your previous videos, sister”, “make public apology for all your previous harams, sister”, “tone down your voice and don’t be so loud and proud, sister”, “find a Muslim brother to marry soon, sister”, etc, etc.

From what I’ve observed in the UK, young Muslim men have a high unemployment rate and they hang out in the streets around the shops, cafes and parks a lot, directionless. They desire material opulence but have no money to purchase it. Along comes Tate (also from the UK) displaying all this wealth and material possessions and “motivating” these young men to become rich also, in very crass ways. I have seen them glorify him as “Top G” due to wealth which he “earned” on the backs of women (literally) and through his haram casino businesses. I have seen them praise Tate for having access to lots of women. He is aspirational for these lazy lay about types who don’t want to work humble ordinary jobs.

As far as the non-Muslims out here observing all this, they are saying, “of course he became Muslim, it fits in with his world view about women”.

Has anyone seen the video of him saying that if a Muslim wife merely complains to her husband she will get stones in her face?!?! And he said it smiling and laughing. Where are the brothers correcting him on that? Do they agree with it?

All these micro-influencers challenge us to “find proof he is misogynist”. Either they have not seen his really bad material or they are just being disingenuous.

A look on the positive side shows The vast majority of people have not heard of him and will not be influenced about him.

I, like many Muslim women, find some Muslim men’s celebration of some of Andrew Tate’s pre-Islamic behaviors disheartening and mystifying. And this number seems to be growing.

What is going on here? What is Andrew Tate’s pre-Islamic brand providing these men?

Osman Umarji in his article “Reflections on the Muslim Reaction to Andrew Tate” states that we Muslim women may indeed by missing something: “Those who previously hated Andrew Tate might try to consider with open minds why people are attracted to some of what he says. It is not as simple as they must all just hate women. These young people were clearly looking for something that they found in Tate’s message. What was missing in the discourse of other famous personalities that led them to listening to a man who they knew had serious flaws?”

We as Muslim women keep pointing out how the Prophet (s) honored women (which of course he did), but it seems to deaf ears. I’m actually wondering if this tactic is counter productive, ie coming off as lecturing, cherry picking, not listening and empathizing, etc.

I really would like a thoughtful explanation from Muslim men pointing out what is going on here – what we Muslim women see to be missing. A detailed MuslimMatters article would be welcome.
