As a teacher employed in a public school whose population was predominantly Hispanic, I noticed a clandestine effort by the administration to proselytise Catholicism among Hispanic students even though our public schools are supposed to be officially secular.

I faced obstacles when I wanted to start my Muslim diversity club. I noticed worksheets with Catholic themes distributed to children in the classroom, stationery donated to students from a local church with Catholic symbols, teacher workshops that began with Catholic imagery and many such things. Even the teaching staff employed was predominantly Catholic.

While my experience was with children in public schools, it reflects broader challenges that Hispanic Muslims may face as adults in accessing Islam and finding fair support for their faith in our country.

I pray to Allah that your stories are told accurately and respectfully :-)
