I especially love that Islam and Allah swt is shared along with encouragement. I look forward to the next installment and as someone said, I’m sure this is the quiet before the storm.

Thanks, RA. I too feel like the story is maturing and becoming deeper as it goes, inshaAllah.

Tawfiq, I’m glad you could relate to part of the story. You’re right, our lives today are easy and blessed compared to many other people.

Kathleen, thanks for the comment. Haaris is, in fact, a real person, and is just as I have described him.

I don’t usually read historical stuff, but I’m really into this story because Darius is basically my age. It honestly makes me realize how easy everything is for me. Like, I complain about dumb stuff and this kid is just trying to survive and do the right thing!

The part where they’re playing that jianzi game or whatever was funny, because its basically hackysack. It’s kind of wild that kids were playing the same game hundreds of years ago, except with copper coins!!! Ouch.

The training parts are intense too! I can’t imagine dealing with that and still having to work all day. Makes me think a lot, alhamdulillah. Specially with Ramadan coming.

Masha-Allah. The acupuncture scene was meticulously done, and the glimpse into the patients really hit hard, especially the contrast between the poor and the rich. The spiritual commentary and the reminder of the death of the Prophet’s son Ibrahim was very sad.

Yet for me, the heart of the chapter, even though it was only a few paragraphs, was Darius and Haaris playing together. I don’t know, I just found it very sweet. Haaris reminds me of someone I know. Hard working, polite, and basically happy. Very different from Darius. I like that Darius indulges him, to a degree.

My gut says we’re in the calm before the storm. Anyone else feel that?

Anyway, I’m still with you! Alhamdulillah.

Comment on How to Make this Ramadan Epic | Shaykh Muhammad Alshareef by Amer Rizvi https://muslimmatters.org/2026/01/28/how-to-make-this-ramadan-epic-shaykh-muhammad-alshareef/#comment-464904 Sun, 01 Feb 2026 18:46:26 +0000 https://muslimmatters.org/?p=94389#comment-464904 May Allah reward Shaikh Muhammad Alshareef with Firdous AlAala for helping Muslims lead a life by dua.

“If you make a sincere intention to do good, it’s recorded as if you did it. And if you actually do it? You get 10 times the reward”.

My understanding:

It’s only “recorded as if you did it,” if you MADE AN ATTEMPT to do that good and then were stopped from doing it. You are NOT rewarded for only making an intention and not trying to do the action. The hadeeth says, “Verily ACTIONS are by intentions.” The hadeeth does not say “Verily intentions are by intentions.”

So, if you wanted to shovel your elderly neighbors’ driveway to make it easy for them to walk on it, expecting Allah’s reward, but were then stopped from doing it because your shovel broke, then you would get that one reward.

But if you made that intention and just sat around your house and made no effort to shovel the driveway, you get no reward. And maybe you even earned a sin for making a mockery of Allah’s religion!

جزاكم الله خيرا
