Mas\u2019ud <img decoding=\"async\" title=\"ra\u1e0dyAll\u0101hu 'anhu (may All\u0101h be pleased with him)\" alt=\"ra\u1e0dyAll\u0101hu 'anhu (may All\u0101h be pleased with him)\" class=\"islamic_graphic\" src=\"https:\/\/muslimmatters.org\/wp-content\/plugins\/islamic-graphics\/img\/black\/png\/ranhu.png\" width=\"20px\" height=\"20px\" srcset=\"https:\/\/muslimmatters.org\/wp-content\/plugins\/islamic-graphics\/img\/black\/svg\/ranhu.svg\"> reported: The Prophet <img decoding=\"async\" title=\"\u1e63allall\u0101hu 'alayhi wa sallam (peace and blessings of All\u0101h be upon him)\" alt=\"\u1e63allall\u0101hu 'alayhi wa sallam (peace and blessings of All\u0101h be upon him)\" class=\"islamic_graphic\" src=\"https:\/\/muslimmatters.org\/wp-content\/plugins\/islamic-graphics\/img\/black\/png\/saw.png\" width=\"20px\" height=\"20px\" srcset=\"https:\/\/muslimmatters.org\/wp-content\/plugins\/islamic-graphics\/img\/black\/svg\/saw.svg\"> said, \u201cTruthfulness leads\u00a0to righteousness and righteousness leads to Paradise. A man will keep speaking the truth and striving to speak the truth until he will be recorded with All\u0101h\u00a0as a <em>siddeeq<\/em> (speaker of the truth). Lying leads to wickedness and wickedness leads to Hell fire. A man will keep telling lies and striving to tell lies until he is recorded with All\u0101h\u00a0as a liar.\u201d\u00a0 [Agreed upon].<\/p>\n<p>Shaykh Ibn Uthaymeen <img decoding=\"async\" title=\"ra\u1e25imahull\u0101h (may All\u0101h have mercy upon him)\" alt=\"ra\u1e25imahull\u0101h (may All\u0101h have mercy upon him)\" class=\"islamic_graphic\" src=\"https:\/\/muslimmatters.org\/wp-content\/plugins\/islamic-graphics\/img\/black\/png\/rahimahu.png\" width=\"20px\" height=\"20px\" srcset=\"https:\/\/muslimmatters.org\/wp-content\/plugins\/islamic-graphics\/img\/black\/svg\/rahimahu.svg\"> says in his explanation of this hadith:<\/p>\n<p>The author <img decoding=\"async\" title=\"ra\u1e25imahull\u0101h (may All\u0101h have mercy upon him)\" alt=\"ra\u1e25imahull\u0101h (may All\u0101h have mercy upon him)\" class=\"islamic_graphic\" src=\"https:\/\/muslimmatters.org\/wp-content\/plugins\/islamic-graphics\/img\/black\/png\/rahimahu.png\" width=\"20px\" height=\"20px\" srcset=\"https:\/\/muslimmatters.org\/wp-content\/plugins\/islamic-graphics\/img\/black\/svg\/rahimahu.svg\">\u00a0set this chapter for truthfulness, so he stated: \u201cThe Chapter of Truthfulness\u201d, and he mentioned (some) verses which (we) have already talked about.\u00a0 As for the ahadith, he said: Abdullah bin Mas\u2019ud <img decoding=\"async\" title=\"ra\u1e0dyAll\u0101hu 'anhu (may All\u0101h be pleased with him)\" alt=\"ra\u1e0dyAll\u0101hu 'anhu (may All\u0101h be pleased with him)\" class=\"islamic_graphic\" src=\"https:\/\/muslimmatters.org\/wp-content\/plugins\/islamic-graphics\/img\/black\/png\/ranhu.png\" width=\"20px\" height=\"20px\" srcset=\"https:\/\/muslimmatters.org\/wp-content\/plugins\/islamic-graphics\/img\/black\/svg\/ranhu.svg\"> reported: The Prophet <img decoding=\"async\" title=\"\u1e63allall\u0101hu 'alayhi wa sallam (peace and blessings of All\u0101h be upon him)\" alt=\"\u1e63allall\u0101hu 'alayhi wa sallam (peace and blessings of All\u0101h be upon him)\" class=\"islamic_graphic\" src=\"https:\/\/muslimmatters.org\/wp-content\/plugins\/islamic-graphics\/img\/black\/png\/saw.png\" width=\"20px\" height=\"20px\" srcset=\"https:\/\/muslimmatters.org\/wp-content\/plugins\/islamic-graphics\/img\/black\/svg\/saw.svg\"> said,\u00a0\u201cYou must be truthful, for truthfulness leads to righteousness and righteousness leads to Paradise&#8230;\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The statement \u201cyou must be truthful\u201d means adhere to truthfulness where truthfulness is understood as being when the statement exactly matches reality. \u00a0For example, if you are asked, \u201cWhat day is it?\u201d and you say \u201cToday is Wednesday\u201d (and it is actually Wednesday), then this is truthful. However, if you say, \u201cIt is Tuesday\u201d then that would be lying.\u00a0 This was mentioned previously in the hadith of Ka\u2019b Bin Malik <img decoding=\"async\" title=\"ra\u1e0dyAll\u0101hu 'anhu (may All\u0101h be pleased with him)\" alt=\"ra\u1e0dyAll\u0101hu 'anhu (may All\u0101h be pleased with him)\" class=\"islamic_graphic\" src=\"https:\/\/muslimmatters.org\/wp-content\/plugins\/islamic-graphics\/img\/black\/png\/ranhu.png\" width=\"20px\" height=\"20px\" srcset=\"https:\/\/muslimmatters.org\/wp-content\/plugins\/islamic-graphics\/img\/black\/svg\/ranhu.svg\"> and his two companions who described what indicates the virtue of truthfulness and its good ending (that it leads to); the truthful one will get the (good) ending, and the liar will be the one whose deeds are in vain.\u00a0 It is mentioned that one of the commoners said, \u201cLying saves (a person)\u201d, so his brother told him, \u201cTruthfulness is a better savior and better (at saving).\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Know also that a statement may be made by the tongue or by the limbs.<\/p>\n<p>The statement which is made by the tongue is speech, and the statement made by the limbs is action. However, how can lying be through action?\u00a0 It can be the case if a person performs an outwardly action which is at disagreement with what he hides inside him.\u00a0 So, for example, the hypocrite is lying because he shows the people that he is a believer &#8211; he prays and fasts with the people, he gives charity but he is stingy, and he might even perform Hajj. \u00a0So, whoever sees his actions might think him to be righteous, but these actions do not indicate what is hidden on the inside, so it is lying.<\/p>\n<p>For this reason, we say truthfulness is by the tongue and by the limbs.\u00a0 Whenever a statement exactly matches reality then it is truthfulness by the tongue, and whenever the actions of the limbs match exactly what is in the heart then it is truthfulness by the limbs.<\/p>\n<p>When the Prophet <img decoding=\"async\" title=\"\u1e63allall\u0101hu 'alayhi wa sallam (peace and blessings of All\u0101h be upon him)\" alt=\"\u1e63allall\u0101hu 'alayhi wa sallam (peace and blessings of All\u0101h be upon him)\" class=\"islamic_graphic\" src=\"https:\/\/muslimmatters.org\/wp-content\/plugins\/islamic-graphics\/img\/black\/png\/saw.png\" width=\"20px\" height=\"20px\" srcset=\"https:\/\/muslimmatters.org\/wp-content\/plugins\/islamic-graphics\/img\/black\/svg\/saw.svg\"> enjoined truthfulness, he also indicated that which it leads to: \u201cFor truthfulness leads to righteousness and righteousness leads to Paradise.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cRighteousness\u201d is an abundance of good, and from the names of All\u0101h\u00a0is \u201cAl-Barr\u201d (The Beneficent), meaning (the One who is) abundant in good and kindness, glorified and exalted.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cRighteousness\u201d is from the fruits of truthfulness, and the above hadith indicates that righteousness will guide a person who possesses it to Paradise &#8211; we ask All\u0101h\u00a0to make you and us \u00a0of the righteous. \u00a0Indeed, Paradise is the purpose of every affair, and that is why the human being is commanded to ask All\u0101h\u00a0for Paradise and to seek refuge with Him from the hell-fire:<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><em>\u201cEveryone shall taste death. And only on the Day of Resurrection shall you be paid your wages in full. And whoever is removed away from the Fire and admitted to Paradise, he indeed is successful. The life of this world is only the enjoyment of deception (a deceiving thing).\u201d [Surah Aal-&#8216;Imran,\u00a0185].<\/em><\/p>\n<p>The Prophet <img decoding=\"async\" title=\"\u1e63allall\u0101hu 'alayhi wa sallam (peace and blessings of All\u0101h be upon him)\" alt=\"\u1e63allall\u0101hu 'alayhi wa sallam (peace and blessings of All\u0101h be upon him)\" class=\"islamic_graphic\" src=\"https:\/\/muslimmatters.org\/wp-content\/plugins\/islamic-graphics\/img\/black\/png\/saw.png\" width=\"20px\" height=\"20px\" srcset=\"https:\/\/muslimmatters.org\/wp-content\/plugins\/islamic-graphics\/img\/black\/svg\/saw.svg\"> also said \u201cA man will be truthful until he will be recorded with All\u0101h\u00a0as a <em>siddeeq<\/em> (speaker of the truth)\u201d and in another narration \u201cA man will keep speaking the truth and striving to speak the truth until he will be recorded with All\u0101h\u00a0as a <em>siddeeq<\/em> (speaker of the truth).\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The <em>siddeeq<\/em> is in the second level of the levels of creation upon whom All\u0101h\u00a0has bestowed favors as All\u0101h\u00a0says \u201cAnd whoever obeys All\u0101h\u00a0and the Messenger, these are with those upon whom All\u0101h\u00a0has bestowed favors from among the prophets and the truthful and the martyrs and the good\u201d [4:69]. \u00a0The man who strives to speak the truth will be recorded with All\u0101h\u00a0as a <em>siddeeq<\/em>, and it is known that status of a <em>siddeeq<\/em> is elevated and is not reached except by the unrivaled few from among the people.\u00a0 In addition, it exists in men and women, as All\u0101h\u00a0<img decoding=\"async\" title=\"sub\u1e25\u0101nahu wa ta'\u0101la (glorified and exalted be He)\" alt=\"sub\u1e25\u0101nahu wa ta'\u0101la (glorified and exalted be He)\" class=\"islamic_graphic\" src=\"https:\/\/muslimmatters.org\/wp-content\/plugins\/islamic-graphics\/img\/black\/png\/swt.png\" width=\"20px\" height=\"20px\" srcset=\"https:\/\/muslimmatters.org\/wp-content\/plugins\/islamic-graphics\/img\/black\/svg\/swt.svg\"> said:<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><em>\u201cThe Messiah [&#8216;Iesa (Jesus)], son of Maryam (Mary), was no more than a Messenger; many were the Messengers that passed away before him.\u00a0His mother [Maryam (Mary)] was a\u00a0<em>Siddiqah\u00a0<\/em>[i.e.\u00a0she believed in the words of Allah and His Books (see Verse 66:12)].\u00a0They both used to eat food (as any other human being, while Allah does not eat).\u00a0Look how We make the\u00a0<em>Ayat\u00a0<\/em>(proofs, evidences, verses, lessons, signs, revelations, etc.) clear to them, yet look how they are deluded away (from the truth).\u201d [Surah Al-Ma&#8217;idah&#8217;,\u00a075].<\/em><\/p>\n<p>The most righteous of the <em>siddeeqeen<\/em> (truthful ones) is the one who is the most truthful from among them, and he is Abu Bakr <img decoding=\"async\" title=\"ra\u1e0dyAll\u0101hu 'anhu (may All\u0101h be pleased with him)\" alt=\"ra\u1e0dyAll\u0101hu 'anhu (may All\u0101h be pleased with him)\" class=\"islamic_graphic\" src=\"https:\/\/muslimmatters.org\/wp-content\/plugins\/islamic-graphics\/img\/black\/png\/ranhu.png\" width=\"20px\" height=\"20px\" srcset=\"https:\/\/muslimmatters.org\/wp-content\/plugins\/islamic-graphics\/img\/black\/svg\/ranhu.svg\">. \u00a0Abdullah bin Uthman bin Abi Quhafa, who responded to the Prophet <img decoding=\"async\" title=\"\u1e63allall\u0101hu 'alayhi wa sallam (peace and blessings of All\u0101h be upon him)\" alt=\"\u1e63allall\u0101hu 'alayhi wa sallam (peace and blessings of All\u0101h be upon him)\" class=\"islamic_graphic\" src=\"https:\/\/muslimmatters.org\/wp-content\/plugins\/islamic-graphics\/img\/black\/png\/saw.png\" width=\"20px\" height=\"20px\" srcset=\"https:\/\/muslimmatters.org\/wp-content\/plugins\/islamic-graphics\/img\/black\/svg\/saw.svg\"> when he had called him to Islam, didn\u2019t have any hesitation nor any pause &#8211; as soon as the Prophet <img decoding=\"async\" title=\"\u1e63allall\u0101hu 'alayhi wa sallam (peace and blessings of All\u0101h be upon him)\" alt=\"\u1e63allall\u0101hu 'alayhi wa sallam (peace and blessings of All\u0101h be upon him)\" class=\"islamic_graphic\" src=\"https:\/\/muslimmatters.org\/wp-content\/plugins\/islamic-graphics\/img\/black\/png\/saw.png\" width=\"20px\" height=\"20px\" srcset=\"https:\/\/muslimmatters.org\/wp-content\/plugins\/islamic-graphics\/img\/black\/svg\/saw.svg\"> called him to Islam he accepted Islam, and believed the Prophet <img decoding=\"async\" title=\"\u1e63allall\u0101hu 'alayhi wa sallam (peace and blessings of All\u0101h be upon him)\" alt=\"\u1e63allall\u0101hu 'alayhi wa sallam (peace and blessings of All\u0101h be upon him)\" class=\"islamic_graphic\" src=\"https:\/\/muslimmatters.org\/wp-content\/plugins\/islamic-graphics\/img\/black\/png\/saw.png\" width=\"20px\" height=\"20px\" srcset=\"https:\/\/muslimmatters.org\/wp-content\/plugins\/islamic-graphics\/img\/black\/svg\/saw.svg\"> (at a time) when his people accused him of lying. \u00a0Furthermore, he believed him when he <img decoding=\"async\" title=\"\u1e63allall\u0101hu 'alayhi wa sallam (peace and blessings of All\u0101h be upon him)\" alt=\"\u1e63allall\u0101hu 'alayhi wa sallam (peace and blessings of All\u0101h be upon him)\" class=\"islamic_graphic\" src=\"https:\/\/muslimmatters.org\/wp-content\/plugins\/islamic-graphics\/img\/black\/png\/saw.png\" width=\"20px\" height=\"20px\" srcset=\"https:\/\/muslimmatters.org\/wp-content\/plugins\/islamic-graphics\/img\/black\/svg\/saw.svg\"> talked about the Isra\u2019 and Mi\u2019raj, but the people accused him of lying and they said, \u201cHow can you go, O Muhammad, from Makkah to Jerusalem and come back in one night, and then you say that you went up to the Heaven? That is not possible.\u201d\u00a0 Then, they went to Abu Bakr <img decoding=\"async\" title=\"ra\u1e0dyAll\u0101hu 'anhu (may All\u0101h be pleased with him)\" alt=\"ra\u1e0dyAll\u0101hu 'anhu (may All\u0101h be pleased with him)\" class=\"islamic_graphic\" src=\"https:\/\/muslimmatters.org\/wp-content\/plugins\/islamic-graphics\/img\/black\/png\/ranhu.png\" width=\"20px\" height=\"20px\" srcset=\"https:\/\/muslimmatters.org\/wp-content\/plugins\/islamic-graphics\/img\/black\/svg\/ranhu.svg\"> and said to him \u201cDon\u2019t you hear what your companion is saying?\u201d\u00a0 He said: \u201cWhat did he say?\u201d\u00a0 They said: \u201cHe said this and that!\u201d\u00a0 At this, Abu Bakr <img decoding=\"async\" title=\"ra\u1e0dyAll\u0101hu 'anhu (may All\u0101h be pleased with him)\" alt=\"ra\u1e0dyAll\u0101hu 'anhu (may All\u0101h be pleased with him)\" class=\"islamic_graphic\" src=\"https:\/\/muslimmatters.org\/wp-content\/plugins\/islamic-graphics\/img\/black\/png\/ranhu.png\" width=\"20px\" height=\"20px\" srcset=\"https:\/\/muslimmatters.org\/wp-content\/plugins\/islamic-graphics\/img\/black\/svg\/ranhu.svg\"> said: \u201cIf he had said that then he had spoken the truth,\u201d so from that day, he has been called As-siddeeq, may All\u0101h\u00a0be pleased with him.<\/p>\n<p>Regarding lying, the Prophet <img decoding=\"async\" title=\"\u1e63allall\u0101hu 'alayhi wa sallam (peace and blessings of All\u0101h be upon him)\" alt=\"\u1e63allall\u0101hu 'alayhi wa sallam (peace and blessings of All\u0101h be upon him)\" class=\"islamic_graphic\" src=\"https:\/\/muslimmatters.org\/wp-content\/plugins\/islamic-graphics\/img\/black\/png\/saw.png\" width=\"20px\" height=\"20px\" srcset=\"https:\/\/muslimmatters.org\/wp-content\/plugins\/islamic-graphics\/img\/black\/svg\/saw.svg\"> said: \u201cBeware of telling lies.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBeware\u201d warns us to be wary of lying, which is to say something that is different from reality, regardless of whether it is through speech or action.<\/p>\n<p>If a person asked you \u201cwhat is today?\u201d and you replied \u201ctoday is Thursday\u201d, or \u201cTuesday\u201d (and it was Wednesday) then that is lying because it does not match reality.<\/p>\n<p>Similarly, the hypocrite is a liar because his outward appearance indicates that he is a Muslim, but he is a kaafir, so he is a liar with his actions.<\/p>\n<p>The Prophet <img decoding=\"async\" title=\"\u1e63allall\u0101hu 'alayhi wa sallam (peace and blessings of All\u0101h be upon him)\" alt=\"\u1e63allall\u0101hu 'alayhi wa sallam (peace and blessings of All\u0101h be upon him)\" class=\"islamic_graphic\" src=\"https:\/\/muslimmatters.org\/wp-content\/plugins\/islamic-graphics\/img\/black\/png\/saw.png\" width=\"20px\" height=\"20px\" srcset=\"https:\/\/muslimmatters.org\/wp-content\/plugins\/islamic-graphics\/img\/black\/svg\/saw.svg\"> said \u201cfor lying leads to wickedness.\u201d\u00a0 Wickedness means to leave the obedience of All\u0101h, because the person rebels and transgress his limits, thus, he goes from the obedience of All\u0101h\u00a0to His disobedience, and the biggest wickedness is kufr- we seek refuge with All\u0101h\u00a0from it &#8211; for the disbelievers are wicked, as All\u0101h\u00a0<img decoding=\"async\" title=\"sub\u1e25\u0101nahu wa ta'\u0101la (glorified and exalted be He)\" alt=\"sub\u1e25\u0101nahu wa ta'\u0101la (glorified and exalted be He)\" class=\"islamic_graphic\" src=\"https:\/\/muslimmatters.org\/wp-content\/plugins\/islamic-graphics\/img\/black\/png\/swt.png\" width=\"20px\" height=\"20px\" srcset=\"https:\/\/muslimmatters.org\/wp-content\/plugins\/islamic-graphics\/img\/black\/svg\/swt.svg\"> said:<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><em>\u201cSuch will be the\u00a0<em>Kafarah<\/em>\u00a0(disbelievers in Allah, in His Oneness, and in His Messenger Muhammad <img decoding=\"async\" title=\"\u1e63allall\u0101hu 'alayhi wa sallam (peace and blessings of All\u0101h be upon him)\" alt=\"\u1e63allall\u0101hu 'alayhi wa sallam (peace and blessings of All\u0101h be upon him)\" class=\"islamic_graphic\" src=\"https:\/\/muslimmatters.org\/wp-content\/plugins\/islamic-graphics\/img\/black\/png\/saw.png\" width=\"20px\" height=\"20px\" srcset=\"https:\/\/muslimmatters.org\/wp-content\/plugins\/islamic-graphics\/img\/black\/svg\/saw.svg\">, etc.), the<em>Fajarah<\/em>\u00a0(wicked evil doers).\u201d [Surah\u00a0At-Takwir,\u00a042].\u00a0 <\/em><\/p>\n<p>Further, All\u0101h\u00a0<img decoding=\"async\" title=\"sub\u1e25\u0101nahu wa ta'\u0101la (glorified and exalted be He)\" alt=\"sub\u1e25\u0101nahu wa ta'\u0101la (glorified and exalted be He)\" class=\"islamic_graphic\" src=\"https:\/\/muslimmatters.org\/wp-content\/plugins\/islamic-graphics\/img\/black\/png\/swt.png\" width=\"20px\" height=\"20px\" srcset=\"https:\/\/muslimmatters.org\/wp-content\/plugins\/islamic-graphics\/img\/black\/svg\/swt.svg\">, said:<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><em>\u201cNay! Truly, the Record (writing of the deeds) of the Fujjar (disbelievers, sinners, evil-doers and wicked) is (preserved) in Sijjin.And what will make you know what Sijjin is? A Register inscribed.Woe, that Day, to those who deny [(Allah, His Angels, His Books, His Messengers, the Day of Resurrection, and Al-Qadar (Divine Preordainments)]. Those who deny the Day of Recompense.\u201d [Surah Al-Mutaffifin, 7-11].\u00a0 <\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><em>&#8220;And verily, the\u00a0<em>Fujjar<\/em>\u00a0(the wicked, disbelievers, sinners and evil-doers) will be in the blazing Fire (Hell)\u201d [Surah Al-Infitaar, 14].<\/em><\/p>\n<p>So lying guides to wickedness, and wickedness guides to hell-fire, we seek refuge with All\u0101h\u00a0from it.<\/p>\n<p>The Prophet said \u201ca man will lie\u201d, and in a different narration, \u201ca man will keep telling lies and striving to tell lies until he is recorded with All\u0101h\u00a0as a liar\u201d, and lying is from the forbidden things. \u00a0Furthermore, some of the scholars have said that it is from the major sins, because the Prophet <img decoding=\"async\" title=\"\u1e63allall\u0101hu 'alayhi wa sallam (peace and blessings of All\u0101h be upon him)\" alt=\"\u1e63allall\u0101hu 'alayhi wa sallam (peace and blessings of All\u0101h be upon him)\" class=\"islamic_graphic\" src=\"https:\/\/muslimmatters.org\/wp-content\/plugins\/islamic-graphics\/img\/black\/png\/saw.png\" width=\"20px\" height=\"20px\" srcset=\"https:\/\/muslimmatters.org\/wp-content\/plugins\/islamic-graphics\/img\/black\/svg\/saw.svg\"> warned that the liar will be recorded with All\u0101h\u00a0as a liar.<\/p>\n<p>From the greatest lying is what some people do today when they relate a false statement, knowing that it is a lie, in order to make the people laugh. \u00a0The Prophet <img decoding=\"async\" title=\"\u1e63allall\u0101hu 'alayhi wa sallam (peace and blessings of All\u0101h be upon him)\" alt=\"\u1e63allall\u0101hu 'alayhi wa sallam (peace and blessings of All\u0101h be upon him)\" class=\"islamic_graphic\" src=\"https:\/\/muslimmatters.org\/wp-content\/plugins\/islamic-graphics\/img\/black\/png\/saw.png\" width=\"20px\" height=\"20px\" srcset=\"https:\/\/muslimmatters.org\/wp-content\/plugins\/islamic-graphics\/img\/black\/svg\/saw.svg\"> warned against this in a hadith: \u201cWoe to the one who speaks and lies in order to make people laugh; woe to him, woe to him.\u201d\u00a0 This is a warning about something which is considered very trivial by a lot of people.<\/p>\n<p>Therefore, all lying is forbidden, and it all guides to wickedness.<\/p>\n<p>However, it was related in a hadith that there are three exceptions to this: During war, when reconciling between the people, and when a woman speaks to her husband or a man speaks to his wife.<\/p>\n<p>Some of the people of knowledge have said though that what is meant by lying in this hadith is <em>tawriyah<\/em> (deliberate ambiguity or double entendres) and not actual lying.<\/p>\n<p>And they said <em>tawriyah<\/em> might be called lying, as in the hadith of Abu Hurayrah\u00a0<img decoding=\"async\" title=\"ra\u1e0dyAll\u0101hu 'anhu (may All\u0101h be pleased with him)\" alt=\"ra\u1e0dyAll\u0101hu 'anhu (may All\u0101h be pleased with him)\" class=\"islamic_graphic\" src=\"https:\/\/muslimmatters.org\/wp-content\/plugins\/islamic-graphics\/img\/black\/png\/ranhu.png\" width=\"20px\" height=\"20px\" srcset=\"https:\/\/muslimmatters.org\/wp-content\/plugins\/islamic-graphics\/img\/black\/svg\/ranhu.svg\">, that the Prophet <img decoding=\"async\" title=\"\u1e63allall\u0101hu 'alayhi wa sallam (peace and blessings of All\u0101h be upon him)\" alt=\"\u1e63allall\u0101hu 'alayhi wa sallam (peace and blessings of All\u0101h be upon him)\" class=\"islamic_graphic\" src=\"https:\/\/muslimmatters.org\/wp-content\/plugins\/islamic-graphics\/img\/black\/png\/saw.png\" width=\"20px\" height=\"20px\" srcset=\"https:\/\/muslimmatters.org\/wp-content\/plugins\/islamic-graphics\/img\/black\/svg\/saw.svg\">\u00a0said \u201cIbrahim did not tell a lie except on three occasions.\u00a0 Two of these occasions were for the sake of All\u0101h, when he said:<em> &#8220;Verily, I am sick&#8221; [Surah As-Saffaat,\u00a089]<\/em>, and when he said <em>&#8220;Nay, this one, the biggest of them (idols) did it. Ask them, if they can speak!&#8221; [Surah Al-Anbiya&#8217;, 63].<\/em> \u201cThe third was regarding Sarah\u2026\u201d (until the end of) the hadith, and he did not lie, but rather he made <em>tawriyah<\/em> in which he was truthful (about what he had said).<\/p>\n<p>It is clear that lying is not permissible except in these three cases, according to the opinion of many scholars, and some scholars say lying is not permissible under any condition,whether joking, or serious, and regardless of whether it involves taking (other people\u2019s) money (unjustly) or not.<\/p>\n<p>The most severe lying is (for a person) to lie and swear in order to take the people\u2019s money unjustly, such as a person denying a claim made against him concerning a rightful matter and saying \u201cby All\u0101h\u00a0I do not owe you anything\u201d, or claiming what is not rightfully his and saying \u201cyou owe me this and that\u201d when he is lying. \u00a0The person who swears on his claim and lies is making the <em>yameen ghamoos<\/em> (false oath), which dips the person in sin, and then it dips him in hell-fire, and we seek refuge with All\u0101h\u00a0from it.<\/p>\n<p>It has authentically been reported that the Prophet <img decoding=\"async\" title=\"\u1e63allall\u0101hu 'alayhi wa sallam (peace and blessings of All\u0101h be upon him)\" alt=\"\u1e63allall\u0101hu 'alayhi wa sallam (peace and blessings of All\u0101h be upon him)\" class=\"islamic_graphic\" src=\"https:\/\/muslimmatters.org\/wp-content\/plugins\/islamic-graphics\/img\/black\/png\/saw.png\" width=\"20px\" height=\"20px\" srcset=\"https:\/\/muslimmatters.org\/wp-content\/plugins\/islamic-graphics\/img\/black\/svg\/saw.svg\"> said \u201cHe who swears an oath in which he tells a lie to take the property of a Muslim by unfair means, will meet All\u0101h\u00a0while He is angry with him.\u201d\u00a0 In conclusion, lying is haram, and it is not permissible for a person to lie at all, neither jokingly nor seriously, except in the three exceptional cases mentioned, and in which there is disagreement among the scholars regarding the meaning of the relevant hadith.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The explanation of this hadith was translated by Abd-Allah Abdullah b.
